Meet Lauren Beem, LMSW

Lauren Beem LMSW (she/her), completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Princeton University and her Master of Science in Social Work at Columbia University. Lauren is committed to using evidence-based treatment approaches within a strengths-based perspective and works from a foundation based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to treat mood, anxiety and adjustment disorders, trauma, OCD, chronic and acute illness, loss, grief, identity, transition and parent/child relationship issues. She strives to help her clients feel seen and understood in order to collaboratively gain greater understanding and insight and learn new skills to meet their goals.
Lauren is a Nashville native but has 15 years of international research and clinical experience. She has worked in various research labs in the United States and abroad to develop and implement evidence-based clinical interventions for individuals and families experiencing stress (including depression, anxiety, trauma, parent/child interactions, chronic health conditions, acute illness and loss). She builds on her strong clinical research foundation to provide effective individual and family therapy to clients of all identities and backgrounds, within a warm and trusting therapeutic relationship.
Lauren has worked in the Vanderbilt University Stress and Coping Lab in the Psychology and Human Development Department, University of Queensland Family Support Centre (Brisbane Australia), University of New South Wales Parent and Child Research Clinic (Sydney, Australia), and the NYU Langone’s CVD risk lab at VA New York Harbour Healthcare System (New York, NY). Lauren has additional clinical experience in primary and secondary school systems, having worked in school-based settings in London, United Kingdom; Sydney, Australia; and Palo Alto, CA. She has clinical experience with chronic and acute illness, loss and grief through her work with the trauma and oncology teams at New York Presbyterian Hospital and Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY.
Lauren is trained and skilled in using CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), trauma treatments including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and has trained in Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Level 1). She is also a certified therapist and Level 1 trainer in Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and co-leads DBT multi-family groups with the NCFWC DBT team. She employs these modalities flexibly and collaboratively and works from a foundation of validation and acceptance to create a safe and gentle environment for her clients.
