Meet Julia
Adolescent and Adult Therapist
Julia (she/her) is a master’s level clinical social worker specializing in collaboration with adolescents, young adults, and their families. She obtained a B.S. in Child Studies and Communication Studies with a minor in Special Education from Vanderbilt University. She then earned her Master’s in Social Work with a concentration in Mental Health from Washington University in St. Louis, completing clinical internships with McCallum Place Eating Disorder Center as well as Webster University’s Counseling and Life Development Center.
Julia is thrilled to be returning to the Nashville community and joining NCFWC with a special focus on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Eating Disorders but also seeing clients seeking therapy for OCD, anxiety, mood disorders, and trauma. In addition to clinical experience with adolescents and college-age young adults, Julia also has a research background. Assistantships with Vanderbilt University, NYU Langone School of Medicine, and the Missouri Eating Disorder Council uphold her commitment to the inextricable relationship between evidence-based practice and effective behavior changes. Julia prioritizes such data-driven interventions alongside clients’ unique, defining values to achieve sustainable, meaningful mental and behavioral changes.
Julia primarily approaches mental health goals through the lens of DBT and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), helping clients debunk myths about emotions and re-learn the purpose, validity, and safety of even the most uncomfortable of emotional experiences. Working with Julia, clients will develop a foundation of mindfulness skills to acknowledge judgements, decrease suffering, and increase self-efficacy in the face of life’s challenges. She champions these approaches
alongside training in Motivational Interviewing (MI), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Prolonged Exposure (PE), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for clients’ various iterations of emotional avoidance and dysregulation, from eating disorder behaviors and unwanted intrusive thoughts to self-harm and suicidal ideation.
Alongside values of authenticity, growth, and humor, Julia cultivates a relationship of non- judgement with clients and their support systems. She is ecstatic to incorporate these principles into individual and group therapy settings under the licensure supervision of Emily Hardcastle, LCSW. Julia is honored to be trusted with each client’s inner world and ultimate journey towards a life worth living. Licenses and Certifications:
