BEAM
Behavior, Emotion, and Attention Management Program Program
Behavior, Emotion, and Attention Management Program Program
A six-session program for parents and their child, designed to teach simple skills for managing behavior, controlling emotions, and improving focus in everyday life. This brief program offers continued assessment and treatment planning at each step to identify needs for more intensive services upon graduation from BEAM. In addition to the six family sessions, the program provides access to a virtual ADHD psychoeducation seminar and parent support group. More information about these group offerings will be provided upon enrollment into the program.
What is the structure and time commitment?
Sessions are 60-minutes and focus on a different topic each session.
Sessions are designed for active participation and teamwork from parents and their child.
Sessions include homework and commitment to practicing new skills between sessions.
Sessions are intended to be informative yet fun, blending educational content with skill- building activities and engaging exercises.
What are the goals?
Parents and their child will learn strategies for behavior management, emotion regulation, social skills, problem solving, and executive functioning skills (time management, focus, organization, and more).
Parents and their child will leave sessions with concrete techniques they can immediately apply in their home environment.
BEAM is not family therapy; these sessions are structured around a protocol-driven
curriculum that educates and empowers families, providing valuable knowledge without delving into deeper therapeutic processes.
Who is a good fit?
Children ages 7 to 12 years old with an ADHD diagnosis or suspected ADHD.
Children who need assistance with learning skills to manage emotions and behaviors.
Children and parents who have trouble with time management, organization, or other executive functioning skills.
Children and parents who want to improve the overall functioning of their family through teamwork and learning new skills.
Families who want a personalized treatment plan and fundamental skills for helping their child with ADHD.
Who is not a good fit for BEAM?
Children with high-risk behaviors, such as severe aggression, self-harm, or suicidal ideation.
Children who are struggling with acute mental health problems that need to be resolved before they can effectively engage in the BEAM program.
Parents who are unwilling or unable to attend each session.
